Description
8.8mm clear laminated glass is a type of safety glass that is commonly used in architectural applications requiring enhanced strength and security. It consists of two layers of 4mm clear glass that are bonded together with an interlayer material, typically made of polyvinyl butyral (PVB).
- Safety: 8.8mm clear laminated glass offers excellent safety features. The interlayer holds the glass layers together, preventing them from separating upon impact or breakage. This helps to reduce the risk of injury from sharp glass fragments, making it a reliable choice for areas prioritizing safety.
- Strength and Durability: With its increased thickness, 8.8mm clear laminated glass exhibits high strength and durability. The additional thickness compared to standard laminated glass enhances its resistance to impact, pressure, and other external forces. This added strength contributes to the glass’s ability to withstand breakage, ensuring long-lasting performance.
- Sound Insulation: 8.8mm clear laminated glass provides effective sound insulation properties. The interlayer acts as a sound barrier, minimizing the transmission of noise vibrations and improving acoustic comfort. This is particularly beneficial in environments where noise reduction is important, such as busy urban areas, airports, or commercial buildings.
- UV Protection: 8.8mm clear laminated glass offers significant protection against harmful ultraviolet (UV) radiation. It blocks a substantial portion of UV rays, helping to minimize fading and damage to interior furnishings caused by prolonged exposure to sunlight. This UV protection ensures the preservation and longevity of furniture, flooring, and other sensitive materials.
- Design Versatility: Clear laminated glass provides design flexibility. 8.8mm clear laminated glass can be customized with various options, such as tinted glass, low-emissivity (low-E) coatings, or decorative interlayers. These options allow for creative design choices and can enhance energy efficiency, privacy, or aesthetic appeal based on specific project requirements.
- Security Enhancement: In addition to safety, 8.8mm clear laminated glass enhances security. The interlayer adds an extra layer of security, making it more difficult to penetrate through the glass. This feature is especially important in applications requiring enhanced protection against forced entry or where security is a concern, such as high-security facilities, financial institutions, or government buildings.
These specifications outline the general characteristics associated with 8.8mm clear laminated glass. However, it’s important to consult with a glass manufacturer or supplier to obtain precise information regarding the high specifications and customization options available for 8.8mm clear laminated glass based on your specific project requirements.

Edge Polishing
BuyGlass.Co pride ourselves on creating a beautiful end product. With edge polishing there are a few things to consider before you purchase & when evaluating the glass you receive.
Depending on the process used, the edge finish can vary slightly between panels. All BuyGlass.Co edge polishing is finished to an exceptional standard and fully QC'd before release.
If you require a uniform finish across all pieces then please contact us after the order is placed.
Otherwise we will process the polishing using whichever process we choose, and although generally this would mean all glass uses the same polishing technique there are certain times when we may use various methods.
Glass Corners
Corners are supplied, as standard, with dubbed corner. If you require unfinished or radius corner please let us know.
Laminated Glass
We use multiple methods for creating laminated glass. CIP, SGP, PVB & EVA are totally different processes which produce very similar results. CIP however, due to the injection process, has a faint area at the perimeter which can be seen upon closer inspection.
** WE GENERALLY USE PVB **
If you would prefer any particular method then you must let us know prior to production or else, at our discretion, we will use any method.
